Silverstone National : 4/5 June 2022. Races 6 & 7.
After the disappointment from the Goldie camp of Snetterton’s disqualification followed by jubilation in race 2 - Idola were determined to have a calmer time at Silverstone, so here’s what happened at the latest round…..
Yet another new driver Alex Fores, fresh from his stint as F3 driver with leading outfit Chris Dittmann Racing would partner with returning Jem Hepworth in car 106.
But it was a surprise result for Saturday qualifying as the pairing of Jay Morton and Ben Colins in Everest that took the highest grid place for Idola, taking the 2nd row alongside Raw Motorsport. Closely behind was Jimmy Broadbent and Gordie Mutch in Goldie v2 alongside Chris and Ed Bridle on row 3 - with Jem and Alex on row 4.
Race 1 was fast and furious as expected with the Silverstone National circuit showing up lap times well under the magic minute. GoldieV2 came away with a brilliant fastest lap of 52.88 seconds which is a new outright lap record for the National circuit, but it was a first win for the University of Wolverhampton with Ben and Jay coming in 4th with the Bridles closely behind. Jem and Alex unfortunately DNF’d with a car issue.
Sunday was a very wet one and guest driver/Idola Race Tech Jack Fabby took an astonishing pole position in one of the Idola silver machines. GoldieV2 was next Idola car in 3rd, with the Bridles on row 3, Jem/Alex row 4 followed by Ben & Jay.
Race 2 was wet and wild and most of the field had an ‘excursion’ at some point in the race! Jimmy & Gordie took a brilliant win, which propelled them to the number 1 spot in the championship standings. Fastest lap this time came courtesy of new driver Alex Fores whilst in the middle of a brilliant scrap with Ben Collins. Jack had a pitstop penalty due to being a single ‘pro’ driver so finished down the field but Everest and the Bridles kept Idola in the points finishing mid field.
